Climax feels like a crush. Step down into the basement and you're inside owner Isabella Burley's deliciously bright universe, complete with chalky Pepto-pink walls - the perfect shade to complement her cherry pink hair.
You’ll see a Betty Boop stencil, mirrors on the walls, VHS tapes and erotica tucked in drawers, T-shirts cut tight. The selection is neighborhood-focused but reaches past it. It's sexy and tasteful all at once. And it's curated like a gallery; something new is always featured up front, so it rewards a revisit every time you’re near. You’ll always see something new.
Isabella Burley, a former editor-in-chief of Dazed and a marketing officer at Acne Studios, launched Climax in London during the 2020 pandemic, building a cult following for rare, hard-to-find books on art, photography, fashion, and culture. She opened her first New York shop in 2024 at 56 East 4th Street, near the Bowery.
